Stopping the Problem at the Source
Through our support of WasteAid in The Gambia, Africa, each wallet sold prevents 25 pounds of plastic waste from reaching the ocean while providing invaluable recycling education and business development training to locals.
Education is Power
While other organizations do great work collecting plastic waste, WasteAid is committed to an educational approach to stopping plastic pollution before it reaches the ocean.
Disadvantaged communities learn about the dangerous problems caused by plastic pollution and are educated on practical alternatives to open dumping and burning.
Recycling education is followed by business skills training that empowers program participants to support themselves long-term by turning plastic waste into useful products that can be sold.
To multiply the impact, local trainers are trained to be able to teach recycling practices to other remote, rural communities.
Paving the Way to a Better Future
Most plastic waste collected is melted and mixed with sand to make paving tiles that require no cement or water. Each tile contains the equivalent of 200 plastic bags and is nearly unbreakable.
